Discover Folley - Rosanna Persiani Week1
2013-02-08
My first week at Discover Folley, the public face of the painter David Folley was really exciting. I anticipate working with David will be a good opportunity to improve my art administration skills. My experience within the art world has been an agent for an important fine art book publisher. Previous to starting this international internship I worked with two Italian artists, with the responsibilty to produce texts for their websites or catalogues. I also spend some time searching sponsorship to organize and finance their exhibitions.

At present, I see my challenge at Discover Folley, as: contributing my skills and ideas to further the David’s success; this I hope will also enhance my employment potential back in Italy.

This first week working with David I have come to realize how different his innovative business model differs from my perception of what and who an artist is. Like many artist, he has many projects on the go at one time . The beginning of the week was spent researching for a new studio. His present studio is far too small to realize his dream.

Working with David and Mara, my Italian colleague who is also on an internship, to create a new C.I.C. (Community Interest Company) which is complex and challenging due to the legal responsibilities. It will be electrifying to see him achieve his dream...read more >>
Discover Folley - Mara Cirigliano Week 1
2013-02-08
I was surprised to find myself at Discover Folley; the gallery of the British painter David Folley. I had prepared myself to work in the technology sector for my placement; but, as life is constantly changing I had to be adaptable, flexible and brave to seize this challenging art placement. I anticipate working with David will be challenging for the following reasons: my knowledge and understanding of the art world is limited; as I am seeking international relations experience I am at present not fully aware of why a painter would require my experiences!

After a couple of days it soon became apparent to me that David’s business model is quite inventive and the future learning prospects will be original. To illustrate the breath of his organization we brainstormed the different aspects of his projects we will be working on over my three months internship. I am excited with these prospects over the coming months and look forward to learning new skills.

Equine - Saffron CD
2012-10-27
Pretty pleased with myself, I have completed my Compositional design (CD) stage. As a painting, Saffron is looking much better; and as painter i feel my efforts have are looking professional. It has been a struggle, many changes - nearly 50 changes of the legs! However, I have expanded my equine knowledge to produce a painting which Michael Harris described as "Stunning"...read more >>

Frankel - Damaged Stretcher
2012-08-11
After assembling the stretcher earlier this morning, this afternoon I wanted to put the first coat of primer onto the linen. I"m using an expensive fine Belgium linen which was used due to the large widths the material is available in.
In the above picture it is possible to just see how the stretcher bar has snapped. There was a weakness with the design and the actual spot where it snapped was on a knot. Will have to get the whole stretcher strengthened. I don"t want to take the linen off the wood support...read more >>
